Baseball Game Preview: Bessemer City Yellow Jackets vs. Pinnacle Classical Academy Eagles

The Bessemer City Yellow Jackets will challenge the Pinnacle Classical Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bessemer City will be strutting in after a victory while Pinnacle Classical Academy will be coming in after a defeat.

Bessemer City will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Piedmont Community Charter on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 12-1 win. The contest marked the Yellow Jackets' most dominant victory of the season.

The team relied heavily on Cooper Hayes, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Jailynn Newton was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

Bessemer City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Pinnacle Classical Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 6-3 to Community Christian Academy.

Pinnacle Classical Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake McNeily, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Caleb Yates also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Pinnacle Classical Academy's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-2. As for Bessemer City, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-8.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Bessemer City has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pinnacle Classical Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Bessemer City couldn't quite finish off Pinnacle Classical Academy in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 10-8. Can the Yellow Jackets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
