Volleyball Recap: St. John Paul II Academy Takes a Loss

After flying high against Olympic Heights on Tuesday, St. John Paul II Academy came back down to earth. The Eagles came up short against the Pine Crest Panthers on Thursday, falling 3-0. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

St. John Paul II Academy took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-11, 25-15, 25-18.

Maya Zidziunas paced St. John Paul II Academy's offense, picking up seven kills. Zidziunas got some help from Emily Rodriguez and her 12 assists. Finally, Julia Eberst kept St. John Paul II Academy's defense grounded, leading the team with five blocks.

Pine Crest found their leader in sophomore Sofia Collado, who had 34 assists and five aces. With that strong performance, Collado is now averaging an impressive 12.7 assists per game. Kaylee Foreman was another key player, getting 11 digs.

St. John Paul II Academy now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Pine Crest, the win got them back to even at 6-6.

St. John Paul II Academy has already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Basilica on the 12th. As for Pine Crest, they will square off against North Broward Prep at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
