Baseball Recap: Poplar Bluff Wins Going Away Against Kelly

Poplar Bluff never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over the Kelly Hawks. The Mules not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 9th (when they won 12-2).

Not much got past Rion Tenchavez, who gave up just a hit and racked up seven Ks to keep Kelly off the board. Tenchavez is becoming a predictor of Poplar Bluff's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 4-1 (and 9-10 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Poplar Bluff let Marcus Tabanera and Caden Jenkins run wild. Tabanera went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Jenkins went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits Jenkins has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Dylan Hall, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Poplar Bluff and bumps their season record up to 13-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Kelly, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season.

Poplar Bluff will venture away from home to challenge Central at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Kelly, they will welcome Jackson at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
