Softball Game Preview: Saugerties Sawyers vs. Our Lady of Lourdes Warriors

Saugerties has gone a perfect 4-0 against Our Lady of Lourdes recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Sawyers will head out on the road to take on the Warriors at 4:15 p.m. Saugerties will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Saugerties is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Red Hook with a sharp 17-10 victory on Tuesday. The Sawyers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

Grace Madelone made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Lily Malgieri was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Morgan Pritchard, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Saugerties hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Our Lady of Lourdes, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Roosevelt 3-2 on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Warriors as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Our Lady of Lourdes' victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-8 and their overall record up to 2-9. As for Saugerties, their record is now 9-5.

Saugerties took their win against Our Lady of Lourdes in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 12-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sawyers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
