Softball Recap: Brandon Takes a Loss

Brandon had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 0-9 to make it eight. They came up short against the Robinson Knights, falling 17-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Eagles were not able to get on the board.

As for Robinson, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-3. That 17-run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

For Robinson's part, Kaylin Merritt made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Merritt was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Alyssa Abreu and Zoe Carratt did most of the damage at the plate: Abreu went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Carratt went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. The dominant performance also gave Abreu a new career-high in RBI (two). Maddy Satin also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Brandon wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 16-6 victory against Leto on the 10th. As for Robinson, they have also already played their next contest, a 12-1 loss against Plant on the 10th.
