Baseball Recap: Newberg Triumphs

Newberg took an eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Sherwood, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers won by a run and slipped past the Bowmen 6-5.

Lucas Vaughn was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Roy Corpus also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Newberg's record is now 16-3. As for Sherwood, they moved to 11-6-1 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Newberg and Sherwood should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Oregon Rankings. The Tigers will face off against North Salem at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (13 vs. 174). Meanwhile, Sherwood (ranked 17th) will meet Glencoe (ranked 109th) at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
