Football Game Preview: Canterbury School Saints vs. Portsmouth Abbey Ravens

The Canterbury School Saints will head out to face off against the Portsmouth Abbey Ravens at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Canterbury School's defense has only allowed 12.2 points per game this season, so Portsmouth Abbey's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Canterbury School fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Berkshire School on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 27-21 to the Bears. Saints fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Bears since Saturday.

Even if they lost, Canterbury School's defense still kept up the pressure with five sacks. Berkshire School's QB won't forget Jayden Williams anytime soon given he sacked him three times. With that strong performance, Williams is now averaging an impressive 5.2 total tackles per game.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Portsmouth Abbey, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 28-6 margin over Capital Prep Harbor on Saturday. Given the Ravens' advantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 28th in Rhode Island, while the Sharks are ranked 135th in Connecticut) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Having lost for the first time this season, Canterbury School fell to 4-1. As for Portsmouth Abbey, their win bumped their record up to an identical 4-1.

Canterbury School strolled past Portsmouth Abbey when the teams last played back in November of 2021 by a score of 30-13. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Saints since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
