Basketball Recap: Mt. Zion Takes a Loss

Mt. Zion lost against Effingham back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Mt. Zion Braves had to suffer through a 74-42 loss at the hands of the Effingham Hearts. While losing is never fun, the Braves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 295th, while the Hearts are ranked 71st).

Mt. Zion has also traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 11-20 record this season. As for Effingham, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-7.

Mt. Zion does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Effingham, they will face off against Centralia at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Effingham knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Centralia likes a good challenge.
