Baseball Recap: Foothill Falls Short Against Ranked Las Vegas

Foothill faced Las Vegas in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Falcons fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Falcons have suffered against the Wildcats since April 27, 2019.

Foothill saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Straily, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another was Matthew Szymarek, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Foothill and nudges their season record down to 19-10-1. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Las Vegas, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 20-9.

Foothill and Las Vegas are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Falcons will face off against Palo Verde at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Foothill's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season. As for Las Vegas, they will take on Faith Lutheran at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
