Baseball Game Preview: Shady Spring Tigers vs. WestSide Renegades

Shady Spring has gone a perfect 3-0 against WestSide recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Tigers will head out to face off against the Renegades at 5:30 p.m. Shady Spring is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.

Shady Spring had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Independence on Wednesday. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Patriots.

Sam Barnett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cutter Boggs was incredible, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Aiden Calvert was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Boggs wasn't the only one making solid contact: Shady Spring kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for the Tigers: they were averaging 4.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 10.4.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, WestSide was a bit more limited in their contest on Wednesday. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Liberty.

Shady Spring's win bumped their record up to 7-8-1. As for WestSide, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Shady Spring took their victory against WestSide when the teams last played back in May of 2021 by a conclusive 14-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
