Basketball Recap: Nelson County Takes a Loss

Nelson County lost to William Campbell back in January of 2025 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Governors took a 40-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Generals. While the Governors didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Generals 10-6 in the first quarter.

William Campbell got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Nikiyah Elliot out in front who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Elliot also grabbed seven steals, which is notable because the Generals are 4-1 when she posts at least three steals, but 3-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Wilson, who posted 19 points and six boards.

Nelson County's defeat dropped their record down to 0-18. As for William Campbell, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.

Coming up, Nelson County and Parry McCluer will face off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. As for William Campbell, they will host Gretna at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Generals will be up against the Hawks' rather soft defense (which has allowed 50 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
