Softball Game Preview: Van Nuys Wolves vs. Reseda Regents

The Van Nuys Wolves will square off against the Reseda Regents at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Van Nuys has given up an average of 12.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Van Nuys' offense. They came up short against Ventura on Wednesday, falling 21-0. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Wolves' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

While Reseda didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Monroe on Wednesday as they made off with a 17-10 victory. The result was nothing new for the Regents, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Reseda let Fuentes Thereze and Angelina Reyes run wild. Thereze went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Reyes scored four runs and stole three bases while going 4-for-5. Another player making a difference was Isabel Lopez, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Reseda kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for Reseda and bumps their season record up to 6-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 21.5 runs over those games. As for Van Nuys, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Van Nuys has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .463. However, it's not like Reseda struggles in that department as they've averaged .673. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Van Nuys suffered a grim 22-10 defeat to Reseda when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
