Baseball Recap: Virginia Episcopal School Triumphs

Virginia Episcopal School hadn't done well against The Covenant recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Bishops had just enough and edged out the Eagles 5-4. The Bishops haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Campbell Howard made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Caden Godsie and Jack Mitchell did most of the damage at the plate: Godsie scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Mitchell scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Lawrence Dempsey was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base.

Virginia Episcopal School hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive contests.

Virginia Episcopal School's record now sits at 6-4. As for The Covenant, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Virginia Episcopal School will take on Roanoke Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for The Covenant, they will face off against Miller School of Albemarle at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
