Softball Recap: Hillcrest Drops Season-High Score on Greenwood

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hillcrest). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Greenwood Eagles a 16-0 shutout on Monday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Rams needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Olivia Baker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lillian Lane was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Riley Ramsey was another key player, scoring four runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Hillcrest is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Greenwood, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-13.

Hillcrest will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Eagles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
