Recap: Burlington Cougars vs. Byers Bulldogs

The Burlington Cougars waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They strolled past Byers with points to spare, taking the game 56-40. That's another feather in the cap for Burlington, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.

Kiyarra Williams continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 14 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Lynzee Neal was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Anna Vetter, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals. It was the first time this season that Vetter scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hope Linnebur, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and two steals.

Burlington's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.5 points per game. As for Byers, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.

Burlington and the Cowboys will face off at 3:30 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Byers, they will be playing at home against the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
