Basketball Game Preview: Coronado Dons vs. La Joya Community Fighting Lobos

The Coronado Dons will take on the La Joya Community Fighting Lobos in a tournament on Monday. La Joya Community took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Coronado, who comes in off a win.

Coronado is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Arcadia. The Dons enjoyed a cozy 49-31 victory over the Titans on Wednesday.

Coronado's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zariah Tsosie, who shot 50% from the field on her way to 17 points and three steals. Those 17 points gave Tsosie a new career-high. Aundrea Rodriguez was another key player, putting up 14 points along with seven boards and five steals.

Meanwhile, La Joya Community came up short against Kofa on Friday and fell 37-25.

Despite the loss, La Joya Community saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jaelynn Stewart posted ten points.

Everything went Coronado's way against La Joya Community in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as Coronado made off with a 56-35 win. Do the Dons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Fighting Lobos turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
