Softball Recap: Tonganoxie Drops Highest Score of Season Against Atchison

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Tonganoxie). They never let the Atchison Phoenix get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory on Thursday. With that win, the Chieftains brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Aubrey Prickett was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaylin Wiehe, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Farrah Halsa was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.

Tonganoxie was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .529. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Tonganoxie and bumps their season record up to 6-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Atchison, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-7 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Tonganoxie beat Atchison by a score of 15-0 later that day.
