Football Recap: Rio Mesa Falls to Moorpark in First Game of Season + How To Watch

Rio Mesa unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They were outmatched by the Moorpark Musketeers and fell 44-13. The Spartans lost against the Musketeers in their previous head to head back in August of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 42-41 score last time.

Loss or not, Rio Mesa got some senior leadership from Nate Warren-Lewis and Alec Fontyn. Warren-Lewis picked up 109 receiving yards and two TDs, while Fontyn threw for 141 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Warren-Lewis got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 64 yards.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rio Mesa is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will face off against Camarillo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Moorpark, they will square off against Centennial at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
