Basketball Recap: Nichols Comes Up Short

If Nichols was feeling good fresh off their 88-51 takedown of St. Mary's last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Nichols Vikings fell 78-71 to the Bishop Timon-St. Jude Tigers on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now lost seven in a row.

Despite the loss, Nichols still got an impressive performance from Tre Paulfrey, who went 12-for-21 on his way to 28 points and three steals. Paulfrey has been hot, having posted 17 or more points the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Mitchell Masiello, who posted 14 points along with eight rebounds and six assists.

Even though they lost, Nichols was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop Timon-St. Jude only racked up eight assists.

Nakyhi Harris continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Bishop Timon-St. Jude, shooting 4-for-7 from downtown and dropping a double-double with 35 points and ten boards. Those 35 points gave Harris a new career-high. Mike Gibson was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds.

Nichols' record now sits at 12-11. As for Bishop Timon-St. Jude, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nichols will square off against St. Francis at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Bishop Timon-St. Jude, they will challenge Jamestown at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Jamestown comes in on three and Bishop Timon-St. Jude on four.
