Baseball Recap: South River Comes Up Short

After flying high against Piscataway Vo-Tech on Saturday, South River came back down to earth. The Rams fell just short of the J.P. Stevens Hawks by a score of 3-2 on Monday. The Rams were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

James Zsorey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, South River saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julien Borusovic, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

South River has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-3 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.33 runs. As for J.P. Stevens, they moved to 3-7 with that win, which also ended their six-game losing streak.

While South River had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
