Baseball Preview: El Toro Chargers vs. Trabuco Hills Mustangs
The El Toro Chargers will head out on the road to challenge the Trabuco Hills Mustangs at 11:00 a.m. on Monday.
Last Friday, El Toro came up short against Mission Viejo and fell 8-5. The Chargers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Niko Castillo made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Jack Mckelvy, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Trabuco Hills not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since February 26th. They never let Foothill Tech get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. Considering the Mustangs have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Trabuco Hills got a big performance out of Mikey Gray, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits Gray has posted since back in February. Jeremy Hernandez also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Trabuco Hills hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Foothill Tech struck out eight times.
El Toro's loss dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Trabuco Hills, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That somehow still isn't as good as their 14-4-1 record this season.
El Toro took their victory against Trabuco Hills when the teams last played back in April of 2016 by a conclusive 8-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chargers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
