Baseball Recap: Clay County Takes a Loss

Clay County extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 8-13. They fell 4-1 to the Monterey Wildcats. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 21, 2017, but that streak is no more.

Nolan Adams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Clay County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Witt Kaslikowski, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

As for Monterey, their victory bumped their record up to 10-15. They haven't had any issues with Clay County recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

On Monterey's side, Elijah Phillips made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Phillips was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2025.

Looking ahead, Clay County will challenge Westmoreland at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Monterey, they will face off against Stone Memorial at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
