Softball Game Preview: Kankakee Valley Kougars vs. Munster Mustangs

Kankakee Valley is 0-10 against Munster since April of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Kougars will head out on the road to face off against the Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Kankakee Valley 3.4, Munster 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Kankakee Valley came out on top against Hobart on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Kougars had just enough and edged out the Brickies 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Kougars have posted against the Brickies since April 6, 2023.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Munster). Everything went their way against Highland on Thursday as they made off with a 13-3 win. The victory was familiar territory for the Mustangs, who have now won six games in a row.

The team relied heavily on Melanie O'Connor, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Caroline Wendlinger was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Munster always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.

Kankakee Valley's record now sits at 12-5. As for Munster, their record is now 11-5.

Kankakee Valley couldn't quite get it done against Munster when the teams last played on April 14th as they fell 7-4. Can the Kougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
