Softball Game Preview: Westminster Lions vs. Costa Mesa Mustangs

The Westminster Lions will venture away from home to challenge the Costa Mesa Mustangs at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Westminster will be strutting in after a victory while Costa Mesa will be coming in after a loss.

Westminster made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Godinez Fundamental, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Westminster was the clear victor by a 16-2 margin over Godinez Fundamental on Friday. The game marked the Lions' most dominant win of the season so far.

Chelsea Brown was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in earned runs (zero). She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Naomi Miranda and Jocelyn Aguilar did most of the damage at the plate: Miranda scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4, while Aguilar scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave Miranda a new career-high. Alexis Pangle was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Westminster kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Costa Mesa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They lost 16-7 to Katella.

Westminster moved to 4-8 with that victory, which also ended their eight-game losing streak. As for Costa Mesa, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11.
