Basketball Recap: James Porter and Tasir Barnes Secure Win for Weequahic

Weequahic entered their tilt with Verona on Saturday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They snuck past the Verona Hillbillies with a 50-45 victory. This was payback for the Indians, who suffered a 53-31 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Weequahic was led to victory by Tasir Barnes and James Porter. Barnes posted 17 points and three steals, while Porter had nine points in addition to four steals and three blocks. That's the most points Barnes has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Nahmir Whack, who earned six points.

Weequahic's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7. As for Verona, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-5 record this season.

Weequahic has already played their next match, a 60-42 loss against DePaul Catholic on the 26th. Verona has also already played their next game (against Glen Ridge), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
