Softball Recap: Riverside Drops Highest Score of Season Against Lakeside

Riverside made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Lakeside, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Riverside put the hurt on Lakeside with a sharp 13-2 win on Saturday. The Rams' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Makenna Distad made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Distad was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Riverside got a massive performance out of Kaylee Winterroth, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Winterroth is crushing it when it comes to hits: she's got at least three every time she's taken the field this season. Kaiden Potter was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4.

Riverside kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.

Riverside's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-4. As for Lakeside, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Riverside will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Deer Park at 4:00 p.m. on April 15. As for Lakeside, they will host Northport at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lakeside is facing Northport at the right time seeing as Northport is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
