Baseball Recap: Pine Valley Central Comes Up Short

Pine Valley Central extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 27 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-11 in the process. They lost 11-1 to the Chautauqua Lake Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-4 back in April.

Pine Valley Central saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trent Ivett, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that Ivett has hit this season.

As for Chautauqua Lake, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-6. They not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 14th (when they won 13-3).

On Chautauqua Lake's side, Michael Jauss spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, Clayton Smith and Connor Nowicki did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Nowicki got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Greyson Wellman, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Pine Valley Central didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-6 defeat against Westfield on the 9th. As for Chautauqua Lake, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 10-0 loss against Clymer Central/Sherman/Panama on the 9th.
