Softball Game Preview: Mountain Heritage Cougars vs. North Buncombe Black Hawks

The Mountain Heritage Cougars will square off against the North Buncombe Black Hawks at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Mountain Heritage took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Madison, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Mountain Heritage had just enough and edged out Madison 5-4 on Friday. The Cougars' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, North Buncombe got themselves on the board against Owen on Friday, but Owen never followed suit. They skirted past the Warhorses 2-0.

Sadie Jo Hunter was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double.

Mountain Heritage's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for North Buncombe, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.

Mountain Heritage was able to grind out a solid victory over North Buncombe in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 4-1. Will Mountain Heritage repeat their success, or does North Buncombe has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
