Softball Recap: Clairemont Beats Canyon Hills for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Clairemont extended their winning streak to four on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 9-7 in the process. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Canyon Hills Rattlers, sneaking past 8-6. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Chieftains also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

Camryn Walton was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alexis Benjamin, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Clairemont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.

As for Canyon Hills, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat they have suffered since May 1, 2024.

On Canyon Hills' side, Natalye Debus put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off 11 hits (and only one walk). Debus has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run.

Debus wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Rylie Storm, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Makaelyn Martin also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clairemont will host Madison at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warhawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.36 runs per game on average), something the Chieftains will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Canyon Hills, they will be playing in front of their home fans against University City at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
