Softball Recap: Ferndale Victorious

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Ferndale ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Trinity Wolves 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted since April 26, 2024.

Olivia Gossi spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 17 Ks. Those 17 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Ferndale's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Randi Rice, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Rice also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another was Yajaira Cantu-Mendez, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Ferndale now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Trinity, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Trinity beat Ferndale by a score of 10-7 later that day.
