League recap: Homewood tops Carroll Catholic to extend winning streak

5A Region 4 recap Oct. 9, 2012

Homewood extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region 4 this week by beating Carroll Catholic, 56-7. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.

Homewood took down the Cavaliers 56-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Justin Hardy ran for 172 yards and caught one passes for 41 yards in the win.

Michael Seaton was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 220 yards on 30 carries as Chilton County defeated Carroll Catholic. Teammate Richard Hilliard added to the ground attack by rushing for 27 yards.

Luke Porter put up the best numbers through the air as the Patriots topped Chris Musso's team. He finished with seven completions for 99 yards and two touchdowns.

Homewood's Porter and Devonte Wallace have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Porter has thrown for 600 yards this season, while Wallace, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 14 catches for 308 yards. The Tigers' Seaton leads the league in rushing yards with 690.

The top two teams in 5A Region 4 will face off this week when first place Sylacauga takes on second place Homewood. Last week, Sylacauga fell to Chilton County, while the Patriots bested the Cavaliers.

Homewood led the league in scoring this week after putting up 56 points on Carroll Catholic. Hardy in the win.
