Basketball Recap: Colton East Key Part of Team Effort in Quakers Win

Plainfield won the last time they faced Franklin Community and things went their way on Friday too. The Plainfield Quakers walked away with a 70-62 win over the Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs. Given the Quakers' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the Grizzly Cubs are ranked 142nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Plainfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Colton East, who went 10-for-15 to rack up 21 points. That's the most points East has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Landon Gilliatt, who went 6-for-9 en route to 14 points and seven assists.

Plainfield was working as a unit and finished the game with 26 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in four consecutive matches.

When it comes to explaining why Franklin Community lost, don't look at Kolt Nelson. Despite the final result, he went 7-for-12 on his way to 21 points and five rebounds. Omari Thomas was another key player, going 5-for-10 to rack up 12 points.

Plainfield has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.4 points over those games. Franklin Community has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.

Plainfield will face off against Danville at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Franklin Community, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 54-52 loss against Columbus North on the 22nd.
