Baseball Recap: Durham School of the Arts Takes a Loss

Durham School of the Arts had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 5-8 to make it four. They fell just short of the Carrboro Jaguars by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Bulldogs couldn't push the score so high this time.

Durham School of the Arts saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Bartosik, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

As for Carrboro, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games.

On Carrboro's side, Joe Smith spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up nine Ks. The Jaguars are 6-2 when Smith allows two or fewer earned runs, but 1-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Evan Stowe, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Carrboro's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't).

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Durham School of the Arts beat the Jaguars by a score of 5-4 later that day.
