Softball Game Preview: Hunt Warriors vs. Southern Wayne Saints

Hunt and Southern Wayne are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2022, but likely not for long. The Hunt Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the Southern Wayne Saints at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hunt is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.

Hunt took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Smithfield-Selma 24-6. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Melaina Dixon was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, five RBI, and one triple. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Allyson Winstead was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing Three bases. while going 3-for-3.

Hunt hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Southern Wayne was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against West Johnston, falling 15-0.

Southern Wayne's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Hunt, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-5.

Hunt skirted past Southern Wayne 3-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will Hunt repeat their success, or does Southern Wayne have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
