Baseball Recap: Valencia Comes Up Short

After flying high against Saugus last Friday, Valencia came back down to earth. Valencia fell just short of the Castaic Coyotes by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Vikings of the 6-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Justin Gaisford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Lincoln Hunt was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.

Valencia has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. Castaic pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

While Valencia had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
