Baseball Game Preview: Lafayette Jefferson Bronchos vs. McCutcheon Mavericks

The Lafayette Jefferson Bronchos will challenge the McCutcheon Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Lafayette Jefferson is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.

Lafayette Jefferson fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against North Montgomery on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Chargin' Chargers by a score of 5-4.

Lafayette Jefferson got a good showing from Erasmo Santiallana, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Santiallana has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lafayette Jefferson saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Pechin, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another was Asa Ritchie, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

Western typically has all the answers at home, but on Saturday McCutcheon proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 7-2. The victory continues a trend for the Mavericks in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won three in a row.

Jon Riley was incredible, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of McCutcheon's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 1-5 when he doesn't).

Lafayette Jefferson's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for McCutcheon, their win bumped their record up to 5-7.

Lafayette Jefferson suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to McCutcheon in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Bronchos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
