Basketball Recap: Olivia Welch's Big Game Can't Quite Lead ALA - Queen Creek over Combs

ALA - Queen Creek was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a 43-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Combs Coyotes. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Coyotes apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Several Patriots players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Olivia Welch, who posted 11 points and three steals. Those 11 points gave Welch a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tally Call, who scored seven points and five steals.

Combs was led to victory by Heather Jo Bush and Jazelle Langowski. Bush dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds, while Langowski had 12 points and four steals. Bush is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least ten every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Celyn Lyons, who put up eight points.

ALA - Queen Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Combs, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-5.

ALA - Queen Creek will host Higley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Higley's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matches. As for Combs, they will head out on the road to take on Eastmark at 7:00 p.m. on January 22nd.
