Baseball Recap: St. Mary's Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lamar, St. Mary was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They came out on top against the Woodland Park Panthers by a score of 6-3. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 9-8 victory two weeks ago.

Garret Klein made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He is becoming a predictor of St. Mary's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 5-10 when he doesn't). Klein was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isaac Velazquez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. He has become a key player for St. Mary's: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 8-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Bret Stewart, who went 1-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs.

St. Mary's record is now 13-10. As for Woodland Park, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-7 record this season.

St. Mary's does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Woodland Park, they will face off against Salida at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
