It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 75-44, which was the final score in Owen's tilt against the Tigers on Friday. Owen has not had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Despite the loss, Owen got a solid performance out of Ellie Martin, who almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine rebounds. Martin hasn't dropped below five steals for four straight games. Mia Roland was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, NCSSM: Morganton had to suffer through a rough 69-13 loss at the hands of the Tigers. While losing is never fun, NCSSM: Morganton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 582nd, while the Tigers are ranked 151st).
Owen dropped their record down to 3-18 with that loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for NCSSM: Morganton, their loss dropped their record down to 1-13.
Everything came up roses for Owen against the in their previous meeting back in January as the team secured a 52-9 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Owen since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
