Football Recap: Basalt Longhorns vs. Rifle Bears

Basalt gave up the first points on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They really took it to the Rifle Bears for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-12 win on the road. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Longhorns.

Basalt's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Will Daniel, who rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Daniel also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making ten total tackles and defending a pass in addition to snagging an interception. Taylor Hays also helped with three touchdowns in total.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Basalt was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 255 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rifle only rushed for 113.

Basalt wouldn't let Rifle keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Basalt can thank Kody Barton and Connor Anthes for forcing both of them.

Basalt's win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0. As for Rifle, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 0-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Basalt will host Glenwood Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Rifle, they will welcome Delta at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Rifle focused on turnovers this week as team gave up four on Friday.
