Football Recap: Brearley Bears vs. Metuchen Bulldogs
After flying high against South River last Friday, Brearley came back down to earth. The Bears took a hard 27-9 fall against the Metuchen Bulldogs on Thursday. The Bears lost against the Bulldogs in their previous head to head back in October of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 49-0 score last time.
Cameron Hayes-Durina looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 78 yards and a pair of TDs, while also throwing for 89 yards and one touchdown. Those 78 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Matthew Jelleme, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Brearley's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-4. As for Metuchen, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-4.
Looking ahead, Brearley will head out on the road to square off against Dayton at 1:00 p.m. on the 25th. As for Metuchen, they will welcome North Plainfield at 1:00 p.m. on the 25th.
