Basketball Game Preview: Roncalli Royals vs. Cathedral Fighting Irish

The Roncalli Royals will take on the Cathedral Fighting Irish at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Roncalli will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

Roncalli is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They took down Danville 68-51. The Royals' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Roncalli to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brennah Cerny, who went 5-for-9 to rack up 16 points. What's more, Cerny also posted a 67% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Elliot Leffler, who went 7-for-14 en route to 17 points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Cathedral came tearing into Saturday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.3 points), and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past the Knights with points to spare, taking the game 38-23.

Roncalli better focus on containing Jaeda Wilson and Caroline Wiggins as the pair were huge in Cathedral's win. Wilson posted 13 points and three steals, while Wiggins almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 13 boards. Wilson continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Reaghan Gilmore was another key player, putting up two points and six rebounds.

Cathedral's win bumped their record up to 18-9. As for Roncalli, their victory bumped their record up to 17-8.

Roncalli came up short against Cathedral in their previous matchup back in November of 2021, falling 59-48. Thankfully for Roncalli, Layla Gold (who had 22 points in addition to eight boards and four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
