Basketball Recap: Lincolnton Comes Up Short

After flying high against West Caldwell last Tuesday, Lincolnton came back down to earth. The Lincolnton Wolves were beaten by the East Burke Cavaliers 88-55 on Friday. The Wolves haven't had much luck with the Cavaliers recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.

Despite the loss, Lincolnton still got an impressive performance from Sarah Rhyne, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Rhyne a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyla Johnson, who posted 12 points.

Leading East Burke to victory were Braelyn Stilwell and Kara Brinkley. Stilwell shot 5-for-9 from downtown and dropped a triple-double with 30 points, 11 boards, and 14 assists, while Brinkley went 14-for-21 to rack up 33 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Stilwell's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Addison Sisk was another key player, putting up two points and five steals.

Lincolnton's loss dropped their record down to 12-10. As for East Burke, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 21-1.

Lincolnton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 72-44 defeat against Maiden on the 11th. As for East Burke, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 74-21 victory against West Lincoln on the 12th.
