Damien extended their winning streak to five on Friday, bumping them up to 5-0. They were the clear victors by a 40-18 margin over the Salesian Mustangs. That 22 point margin sets a new team best for the Spartans this season.

Isaiah Arriaza produced another solid effort throwing for 300 yards and three TDs, while also rushing for 48 yards. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Malachi McFarland, who rushed for 71 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries.

Another reason for the win was Damien's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Jamil Ennabi was especially locked on to Salesian's QB and sacked him twice. The game marked Ennabi's first with multiple sacks this season. Declan Becher was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making seven total tackles (2.0 for loss).

As for Salesian, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-2. The matchup marked their lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

J Anthony Cobb and Joel Brannon certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Anthony Cobb rushed for 123 yards, while Brannon picked up 40 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Damien and Salesian will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Spartans see the field they'll take on Rancho Cucamonga at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. As for Salesian, their break will end when they face Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary at 7:00 p.m. on October 3.
