New Athens and Carlyle are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. New Athens will take on Carlyle at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. New Athens will be strutting in after a win while Carlyle will be coming in after a defeat.

New Athens not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15, 2024. They blew past Sparta 8-2.

The team relied heavily on Isaiah Lintker, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.

Meanwhile, Carlyle came up short against Altamont on Saturday, falling 11-3. The loss put an end to the Indians/Lady Indians' undefeated start to the season.

Carlyle saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bennett Snyder, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

Having lost for the first time this season, Carlyle fell to 2-1. As for New Athens, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

New Athens was able to grind out a solid win over Carlyle in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, winning 6-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for New Athens since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
