Basketball Recap: Indian Land Comes Up Short

Indian Land lost against Rock Hill on January 3rd and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Indian Land Warriors were outmatched by the Rock Hill Bearcats and fell 70-31. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while the Bearcats are ranked 37th).

Indian Land's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lila Leung, who posted six points and six boards. The dominant performance gave Leung a new career-high in points. Emily Callahan was another key player, putting up seven points.

Even though they lost, Indian Land smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 29 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Rock Hill's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Emine Hollis led the charge by earning 31 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Stevenson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten assists.

Indian Land has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. As for Rock Hill, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.

Indian Land wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 41-25 defeat against Northwestern on the 29th. As for Rock Hill, they will host Fort Mill at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Rock Hill is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.2 points per game this season.
