Basketball Game Preview: Durham Trojans vs. Portola Tigers

The Durham Trojans will square off against the Portola Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Durham will be looking to extend their current 15-game winning streak.

Durham is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 70-44 margin over Trinity. The Trojans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 games by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Portola came tearing into Friday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.8 points), and they left with even more momentum. They came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 73-67 W against the Braves.

Durham better keep an eye on Connor Sheridan. He was instrumental in Portola's win, almost dropping a triple-double with 23 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists. Sheridan's evening made it 20 games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. Emery Powell was another key player, going 6-for-7 on his way to 14 points along with six boards and four steals.

Portola was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now racked up at least 21 assists in five consecutive contests.

Portola's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.0 points over those games. As for Durham, their victory bumped their record up to 25-4.

Durham was able to grind out a solid win over Portola when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 60-52. Will Durham repeat their success, or does Portola have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
