Preview: Rouse Raiders vs. University Trojans
Rouse is 0-1 against University since October of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Rouse Raiders will be playing at home against the University Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Rouse is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.
Even though Chaparral scored an imposing 36 points on Friday, Rouse still came out on top. Rouse walked away with a 49-36 win over Chaparral. Given Rouse's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 200th, while Chaparral is ranked 569th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Rouse found their leader in underclassman London Morgan, who threw for 334 yards and six touchdowns while completing 82.6% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Keller Rogers, who picked up 76 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, University beat Elgin 27-23 on Friday.
Cade Bynnom and LaDarrius Evans were among the main playmakers for University as the former rushed for 69 yards and two touchdowns and the latter rushed for 154 yards and a touchdown.
Rouse's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-5 Pflugerville Connally and 2-5 Glenn (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.3% over those games). University is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Rouse has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 191 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like University struggles in that department as they've been even better at 267.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Rouse came up short against University when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 21-16. Will Rouse have more luck at home instead of on the road?
