Baseball Recap: Center Line Continues Home Dominance on Wednesday

Center Line took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Fitzgerald, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Spartans on Wednesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Panthers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Garrett Watters was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Matt Fizia was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Center Line's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-9. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Fitzgerald, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season.

Center Line will venture away from home to face off against Clintondale at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Fitzgerald, they will welcome Clawson at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
