Volleyball Recap: Widefield Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Victory

Widefield had already won five in a row and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They came out on top against the Pueblo Centennial Bulldogs by a score of 3-1. This was payback for the Gladiators, who suffered a 3-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Widefield had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 20-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-23.

Colie Wallace paced Widefield's offense, picking up 19 kills. Wallace got some help from Leila Brown and her 35 assists. Finally, Jaileen Martinez kept Widefield's defense grounded, leading the team with four blocks.

Widefield's win bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Pueblo Centennial, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

After both having extra time off, Widefield and Harrison will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. This will be the Gladiators' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Pueblo Centennial, they will face off against Pueblo South at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The match will also give the Bulldogs their first taste of in-conference action this season.
